For this assignment I was tasked with taking my foundational knowledge of coding in Processing using the P5.js framework to create reactive sound visualizations on a topic. I choose to address the hard topic of sexual assault in my work. The output was a series of three augmented reality printed poster that when scanned, trigger animated experiences. Daily sexual assault case data from the US Department of Justice via RAINN.org was collected and used to create a simulated daily case total over an entire year. This data was then imported into Processing and used to create audio sounding like an alarm which inspired the campaign sub-headline that encourages bystanders to “sound the alarm on sexual assault”. Additional copyright free audio clips were also used and manipulated by this data. The created audio was then visualized in three separate reactive animations. The animations analyzed both the frequency and amplitude of the generated audio to create unique and interesting animations. The animations were integrated with the printed posters and also used to create the AR experiences. The printed posters feature staggering statistics on sexual assault in America provided by the US Department of Justice via RAINN.org. This AR poster series is meant to create awareness around the topic while providing bystanders the resources to thoughtfully and properly aid victims and survivors.
